About The Rook: The Rook is more than just a café and pub; it's a cornerstone of the MSVU community where students, faculty, and staff come together to socialize, study, and relax. With a cozy atmosphere, an inviting mix of modern and vintage decor, and a commitment to serving quality products from JustUs, The Rook transforms from a daytime café to a lively pub in the evenings. We host a variety of engaging events like open mic nights, trivia nights, and live music performances.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Enforce rules and policies to ensure the safety of patrons and staff.

Monitor responsible liquor consumption and maximum capacity limits.

Conduct regular surveillance for hazards and enforce COVID-19 requirements when applicable.

Handle escalations with firmness and sensitivity.

Collaborate with Rook management and Campus Security as needed.
Qualifications:
-
Must be over 19 years old and able to pass an enhanced criminal record check.

Enrolled as a student at MSVU with at least 0.5 credits.

Serve Right, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work under pressure and handle difficult situations effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Previous security experience.
-
Experience in a pub or café setting.
-
Training in conflict resolution and harm reduction.
Working Conditions: This role involves working in a lively, sometimes high-pressure environment where you'll need to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs. You'll be responsible for handling customer escalations, including managing inebriated patrons with support from Rook Management and Campus Security.
