The Rook Café & Pub is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Assistant Manager who’s eager to elevate the student experience, lead a dynamic team, and make The Rook the heart of the campus community.

The Rook isn’t just a café and pub—it’s where the MSVU community comes alive. By day, it's a cozy coffee haven, perfect for study sessions and catching up with friends. By night, it transforms into a vibrant pub, hosting everything from open mic nights to trivia battles and live music. With a perfect blend of vintage charm and modern vibes, The Rook is where memories are made.

What You'll Be Doing: 

  • Bring The Rook to life by planning and executing daytime operations and evening events. 

  • Lead, train, and motivate our amazing staff to deliver top-notch service. 

  • Keep things running smoothly with inventory management and food safety practices. 

  • Coordinate exciting programming—from trivia nights to live performances. 

  • Be the face of The Rook, providing stellar customer service and promoting our offerings. 

 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Age & Checks: Must be 19+ and able to pass an enhanced criminal record check. 

  • MSVU Student Status: Enrolled in at least 0.5 credits (or equivalent). 

  • Certifications: Serve Right, Advanced Food Safety, First Aid, and CPR/AED (or willing to get certified). 

  • Experience: At least one year in the service industry, food prep, or customer service. 

  • Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a knack for handling tough situations. 

 

Bonus Points If You Have: 

  • Previous experience managing or supervising in a café or pub setting. 

  • A background in tourism, hospitality, business management, or culinary arts. 

  • Experience in harm reduction, sexual violence prevention, or working with diverse communities. 

 

What to Expect: 

You’ll be working in a lively, fast-paced environment. Be prepared to be on your feet, handle the occasional tricky customer (including the inebriated ones), and juggle multiple tasks with a smile. But don't worry—you’ll have the support of Rook Security and Campus Security when needed.
