MSVUSU Community-Based Research Project

This project will provide students with open-access and no-cost education from grassroots activists and academic researchers on how to help create a more food-secure community, delivering practical information to combat a pressing social issue in Halifax. Along with research-focused education on food security,

This project will offer one (1) paid assistantship in food security research to one of the MSVU students who partake in this project. The paid assistantship will allow one student to continue their education on food access on a stipend that can alleviate some of their financial pressures and support their personal and professional development. To elaborate, this project includes two distinct opportunities to advance skills in food security research and community mobilization:

• Open-access and no-cost education: four informal seminars that focus on the current state of food security in Halifax and how to improve it.

• Paid research assistantship: one 12-week assistantship at an hourly rate of $18.85 CAD for 25 hours a week, totaling $5,655 CAD.

Seminar Series

This Project Consists of 5 seminars on Food Security. This project will offer one (1) paid assistantship in Food Security Research to One (1) of the MSVU students who attend all 5 Seminars.

This assistantship will allow one student to continue their education in food access on a stipend that can alleviate some of their education in food access on a stipend that can alleviate some of their financial pressures and support their personal and professional development.
