Make a Difference as Our Food Bank Manager!
Are you passionate about tackling food insecurity and building a supportive community? The MSVU Food Bank is searching for a Food Bank Manager who’s ready to lead, inspire, and make a real impact on campus. If you’re a dynamic organizer with a heart for service, this role is for you!
About the MSVU Food Bank:
The MSVU Food Bank is more than just a resource—it’s a lifeline for students and families facing food insecurity. We’re dedicated to fostering a compassionate, inclusive environment where everyone feels supported. By partnering with organizations like Feed Nova Scotia and Second Harvest, we ensure that no student at MSVU goes without the essentials.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
🌟 Lead with Purpose: Oversee every aspect of food bank operations—from distribution and inventory management to community partnerships and fundraising.
📚 Grow Your Skills: Gain hands-on experience in non-profit management, fundraising, and volunteer coordination while contributing to meaningful causes.
🌱 Be the Change: Play a vital role in promoting food security and wellness across campus. Help create an environment where students thrive, not just survive.
⏰ Flexible Hours: This part-time role offers up to 15 hours per week, giving you the perfect balance between work and academics.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Run the Show: Oversee food distribution, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Lead & Inspire: Supervise volunteers, create schedules, and ensure a positive, inclusive environment.
Build Community: Cultivate partnerships with organizations like Feed Nova Scotia and collaborate with MSVU departments on food security initiatives.
Fundraise & Advocate: Develop fundraising plans and run awareness campaigns to spotlight food insecurity issues.
Stay Organized: Keep meticulous records, from food safety logs to budget management, and contribute to MSVUSU’s strategic goals.
What We’re Looking For:
MSVU Student Status: Enrolled in at least 0.5 credits (or equivalent).
Experience: At least 1 year in non-profit management, food security, or related fields. Experience with volunteer supervision is a plus.
Certifications: WHMIS, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, and Advanced Food Safety (or willingness to obtain).
Skills: Strong communication, strategic planning, and organizational skills. Tech-savvy with tools like Office 365, database management, and social media.
Bonus Points If You Have:
A background in business administration, applied human nutrition, non-profit leadership, social work, or public health.
Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or financial management.
Familiarity with hunger relief programs and food bank operations.
What to Expect:
You’ll work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Expect to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and manage multiple tasks at once. Interacting with students facing food insecurity can be emotionally challenging, but your work will have a profound impact on the MSVU community.
